Membership Types

Full Member

• Annual Dues: $165
• Government Annual Dues: $125

Criteria for Full membership:

• Qualified by virtue of training and experience
• Actively involved in toxicology through administration, teaching, research, or safety assessment
• Functioning as a scientist or professional in toxicology
• Minimum of a baccalaureate degree earned from a recognized college or university
• Minimum of five years of experience directly related to toxicology (work performed in the process of obtaining a degree or in postdoctoral training does not count toward the five years of experience needed)
• Fulfill one or more of the following requirements:
• Formal advanced training in toxicology or related field
• At least one peer-reviewed publication on a topic relevant to toxicology
• Board certification in a subject relevant to toxicology.

Application requirements:

• Membership must be sponsored by two Full members of the College
• One of the sponsors may be associated with the same institution/organization as the candidate
• The second sponsor must be from outside the candidate’s organization
• The membership application to support candidacy as a Full member must be completed in its entirety

International Applicants
For applicants outside North America who do not know any ACT Full members to serve as sponsors, the applicant may arrange to have two letters of recommendation sent from scientists/supervisors who are familiar with the candidate's work in toxicology, along with a current CV for each person providing the letter of recommendation.

Associate Member

• Annual Dues: $165
• Government Annual Dues: $125

Criteria for Associate membership:

• Qualified by virtue of training and experience
• Actively involved in toxicology through administration, teaching, research, or safety assessment
• Functioning as a scientist or professional
• At least one of the following:
• A baccalaureate degree earned from a recognized college or university
• Training and experience in toxicology
• Minimum of two years of experience directly related to toxicology, including time spent pursuing an advanced degree in toxicology and/or in postdoctoral training

Application requirements:

• Associate membership must be sponsored by one Full member of the College, who may represent the same institution/organization as the candidate
• The membership application to support candidacy as an Associate member must be completed in its entirety

Postdoctoral Researcher/Transitional Member

• Annual Dues: $40
• Electronic access to journal

Criteria for Postdoctoral Researcher/Transitional membership:

• Less than two years of relevant experience
• Engaged in acquiring professional skills to pursue a career in toxicology (or a related discipline)
• Verification (e.g., letter of recommendation from advisor or direct supervisor)

Application requirements for postdocs:

• An official signed letter from the direct postdoctoral supervisor that verifies that the applicant is a postdoctoral researcher who is actively researching or training for an eventual career in a toxicology-related field

Application requirements for transitional members:

• An official signed letter from the direct advisor or supervisor that verifies that the applicant is actively researching or training for an eventual career in a toxicology-related field

Note: Postdoctoral Researcher/Transitional members may not vote or hold elective office but may participate as an ex officio member of select Committees.

Student Member

• Annual Dues: Free
• Electronic access to journal

Criteria for Student membership:

• Engaged in studies leading to a degree in the field of toxicology or a field related to toxicology

Application requirements:

• An official signed letter from the academic advisor that verifies that the applicant is a student in good standing and is pursing degree work related to toxicology

Emeritus Member

• Annual Dues: Free
• Electronic access to journal

Criteria for Emeritus membership:

• Current, active Full member who has been a member for at least 15 years
• Retired from professional practice

Request requirements:

• Email ACT Headquarters to request approval of a change of membership status by the Membership Committee
• Verification of retirement date and whether any consulting work is planned for after retirement. If you plan to do consulting work after retirement, to obtain Emeritus status, the consulting work done must constitute less than 25% of your overall effort.

Note: Emeritus members pay no membership fees, may not vote or hold elective office, and do not receive the print journal. An Emeritus member may be restored to previous membership status via application to the Membership Committee and Council approval.

Distinguished Fellow

• Annual Dues: $150
• Government Annual Dues: $100

Criteria for Distinguished Fellow designation:

• Full member of ACT for at least 10 years
• Attained international recognition in a field of research
• Contributed to significant advancement in the science of toxicology

Requirements:

• Recommendation by two Full members of ACT emailed to acthq@actox.org
• Vote of approval by ACT Council during any of its regular meetings

Note: Officers of the College are ineligible to be voted as Distinguished Fellows during their active term of office.

Honorary Member

• Annual Dues: Free

Criteria for Honorary membership:

• Individual whose contributions to the College merit consideration for Honorary membership in the College who would otherwise not be eligible for membership

Nomination requirements:

• Nominations with supporting documents submitted to the Chair of the Awards Committee by any Full member

Note: Honorary members shall pay no membership fees and may not vote or hold an elected position.

Corporate Member

• Corporate Partner: $3,500
• Corporate Contributor: $1,500
