Welcome from ACT President

Robin Guy

I am very pleased to invite you to attend the 34th Annual Meeting of the American College of Toxicology at the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa in San Antonio, Texas. Please refer to the links below for information on the symposia, continuing education courses, registration, accommodations, etc. You will see that the Symposia and the CE courses are very diverse to cater to different aspects of practical and regulatory toxicology.

Note that the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa (site of the 2013 Valero Texas Open) is away from the city and located in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. The Hill Country is picturesque with scenic limestone cliffs, and definitely is a change from the hustle and bustle of a big city. It has its own distinct culture and heritage, which you can appreciate in the true heart of Texas.

If you have never been to an ACT meeting, I urge you to check us out. The ACT meetings are collegial, with many opportunities for visiting the exhibits, networking, and catching up with friends and colleagues. Don’t miss the Awards luncheon, which is included in your registration fee. Our evening receptions are popular events, and we will again feature “Jazzicology” (our own home-grown band comprised of ACT members) during our Sunday reception.

I look forward to seeing y’all!

Venue

ACT 34th Annual Meeting registrants will enjoy the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa where clear streams and towering oaks and cedars meet the majesty of rugged hills and a contemporary facility well suited for meeting activities and informal interaction with your colleagues. The JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa was ranked as one of the top 500 hotels in the world in 2011 by the readers of Travel + Leisure Magazine and designated Marriott International’s 2012 Hotel of the Year. Vibrant colors of the sunset, tooled leather, carved wood, and hewn stonework are used throughout the resort, and the meeting area is complemented by a variety of stunning indoor and outdoor spaces for conversations with your colleagues. Options during down time are numerous. The 36-hole TPC San Antonio features two championship golf courses on the PGA tour. The River Bluff Water Experience offers a complex of pools, fountains, waterfalls, and rivers for guests and an abundance of poolside lounges to soak in the Texas sun. Indulge in luxurious spa treatments, use the private fitness center, or enjoy the Texas cuisine that links the area’s German legacy with spicy Southwestern flavors in over a half-dozen restaurants at the resort. Climate

November is a good month to visit the San Antonio region, with daily highs expected to be in the mid 70s, lows in the 50s, moderate humidity, and only light breezes. November is cloudier than some months, yet the skies are cloud-free about half of the days in the month, with some thunderstorms and heavy rains possible in the first part of the month. Rain is anticipated only one day out of five and even then the total for the month averages under three inches of rainfall.

Daylight savings time ends on Sunday, November 3.

International Attendees

ACT welcomes attendees from around the globe to this open scientific meeting. This a reminder to international travelers to apply for your visa early, three to four months before the travel date, as it can take some time for a response. Travel.State.gov is the official source for visa information for the United States. Contact ACT Headquarters to request a letter of invitation if needed for travel approval.
