Code of Ethics

(Adopted by the American College of Toxicology, October 9, 1997, revised March 25, 2021)

Preamble

The American College of Toxicology (the College) is dedicated to providing an interactive forum for the advancement and exchange of scientific information. This is achieved in part by promoting and providing opportunities for scientists from industry, government, consulting, and academia to collaborate and share knowledge.

Achieving this goal requires members of the College to adhere to the highest scientific and ethical standards and each member should conform to the following Code of Ethics:

Code of Ethics

Members of the College are committed to:

  • Treating fellow members and colleagues associated with the College with dignity and respect.
  • Respecting the ideals and principles of an inclusive and diverse environment for all.
  • Providing the highest-quality science with due regard for objectivity, integrity, and confidentiality.
  • Presenting scientific and/or professional opinions with disclosure of available supportive data.
  • Upholding all laws, regulations, and safety and ethical standards that apply to the welfare of coworkers, experimental procedures in animal and human subjects, and the environment.
  • Applying the principles of the 3Rs (replacement, reduction, refinement) to scientific studies.
  • Avoiding situations that pose actual or perceived conflict(s) of interest.
  • Providing notice, as appropriate, of any potential conflict(s) of interest during any decision-making process.
