The mission of the American College of Toxicology is to educate, lead and serve professionals in   industry, government and academia by promoting the exchange of information and perspectives on safety assessment and the application of new developments related to toxicology.  As a part of this mission, ACT is offering a course entitled:  “Toxicology for Industrial and Regulatory Scientists”.

This course, taught by distinguished experts, is designed to provide a basic training in toxicology.  Participants will obtain an overall understanding of the principles of nonclinical safety evaluation with emphasis on the practical application of these principles and interpretation of nonclinical safety data.  The course will include discussion of regulatory case studies and a workshop.  This toxicology course is intended to benefit individuals working with small and large molecules from biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, along with those from CROs and regulatory agencies who are interested in toxicology.  The course is designed to be interactive and the case studies and workshop are conducted by instructors who either current works at or has previously worked for the FDA.

The course has been highly successful and well received during the first two years.  The course participants were from U.S. and Europe and included:  toxicologists from pharmaceutical, biotechnology, CROs and regulatory agencies; individuals looking to enter the pharmaceutical sector; individuals involved in drug development but without previous toxicology training; and those without toxicology training who wanted to gain a broader drug development experience (quality assurance and program managers).

The benefits of the toxicology course are highlighted:

 -      Interaction with highly distinguished faculty representing pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, consultants and regulatory authorities.

 -      Apply practical applications in development of pharmaceutical and biologic therapeutics learned from the class room.

 -      Able to practice with real-life drug development examples.

 -      Opportunity to interact with other students from diverse backgrounds.

 -      Practice working in a team to address specific questions about a program.

 -      Potentially enhance the career opportunity.

 -      Highly detailed course manual in color.

 -      Daily snack breaks and lunch.

 -      An overall positive experience.
